When horror movies are watched by us, we don’t really think if it is a real life event or just fiction. Many horror films, however, tend to say that they are taken from real life events. Here, we have ten films which are based on true stories.

This movie was released in 2013, and was based on a real-life event from the case files of two paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. Those who watched the film after the release were shocked that whatever was shown in the film was real. Though the film had a minor difference here and there, it still terrified many.

2. The Haunting In Connecticut (2009)

This movie was released in 2009; it was about a family that shifted in 1980’s to an old mortuary. Cameron Reed, one of the people who lived in that house, said that there were few differences to make it feel more like a Hollywood film, but the part where the niece was suffocated by the shower curtain was true.

3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

This movie was banned in many countries when it released because of the amount of violence. The story is about a group of friends who land up at a serial killers house, who kills people with a chainsaw. The psychotic serial killer liked to kill the people and wear their skin as a mask.

4. Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

This film had made the list of The Best 1000 Movies Ever in the New York Times, 2012. This film showed that a character like bogeyman does exist, where he kills people with a glove of razors by entering their dreams.

5. The Girl Next Door (2007)

The Girl Next Door was based on a crime that took place in Indiana in 1965, and also a novel of the same name. This movie showed a young teen being tortured by her aunt in ways we can’t imagine. The movie did try to change the truth in some ways. Sylvia Liken is the real life victim who went through the torture.

6. The Amityville Horror (1979)

This movie is based on a book about a real life event. In the bookstore, the book is kept in the crime section of true events. The movie was a bit exaggerated as compared to the book story, but it did have the important parts, like the beds slamming.

7. Jaws (1975)

Jaws was the classic horror film of 1975, and many people had started fearing sharks because of this film. This film is based on the story of a police chief who was going to hunt for a white shark in a small island. It was also taken from a book called, ‘Jaws.’

8. Eaten Alive (1977)

In this film, the victims were killed by a serial killer, who was a hotel owner, and then this serial killer would feed the bodies to his pet crocodile; this happened in a small town. This story was the same as Joe Ball, who was a serial killer and had a pond filled with alligators.

9. The Exorcism Of Emily Rose (2005)

This film shows the trail of Father Richard Moore after the failed exorcism of Emily Rose, who later died. This film was based on a real story of a German girl named Anneliese.

10. The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is one of the classic horror films in 1973, and it shows the story of a 12-year-old girl who is possessed by a demon. Two priests try exorcism on her, because her mother wanted her child back to normal. This movie started the trend of the portrayal of true horror films.
