Poorna, born in Telangana, India, gained Worldwide fame after she climbed Mount Everest at the age of 13, being the youngest girl ever in the world to do so. Poorna also became the youngest and the only girl in the world to conquer the highest mountains of six continents of the world. She is a tribal girl who succeeded in climbing Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth, on 25th May 2014 after a long duration of training and hard work. She belongs to a low-income family and both of her parents were agricultural laborers. Her father, Devidas Malavath, wished her to get better education and experience, which was impossible in the remote village.
So he encouraged her to join TSWREIS, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society at, the age of 10. Eventually, a workshop for Mountain Climbing selected her for training. Her coach Shekhar Babu, who already summited the mountain in 2007, trained her. It took eight months of training for the Everest expedition, and the institute selected her amongst110 students from 310 welfare schools, for mountain climbing. She was sent to Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling for preparation, where she succeeded in climbing Mount Renock, a 17,000 feet high mountain. To increase her tolerance level, she learned to cope with minus zero degree temperatures (up to -35 degrees Celsius) in Ladakh.
She completed the climbing of Everest after 52 days of the expedition from the Tibetan side.
