She was born on 23rd September, 1982. Her original name is Rathi Arumugam. She was born in the city of Bangalore in Karnataka, but her parents were native Tamil. She has two siblings, one elder sister and younger brother. She was well educated and she was a student of BDS at the Mathrushri Ramabai Ambedkar Dental College and its Hospital in Bengalore. Apart from studies she also got trained in classical dance. She was blessed with good dancing skills. She has a good vocal beauty, she even worked as a dubbing artist for few movies in Tamil language. She dubbed for famous heroine Ganelia Dsouza (popular actress in both south Indian films and Bollywood) in her first movie ‘Boys’ directed by top director Shankar (an innovative director famous for directing Hollywood range movies).

She started her acting career in 2002 through a Tamil film ‘Gummalam’. She also acted in a Malayalam movie in 2004 and made Kannada debut in the same year. She acted in few Kannada movies later. Rathi Arumugam, a South Indian actress, was born in Bangalore to Tamil parents Arumugam and Bharani on 23 September 1982. She studied dentistry at the Mathrushri Ramabai Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital in Bangalore. She is a trained classical dancer and had performed her Arangetram. She began her acting career by making her debut in a Tamil film, Gummalam in 2002. She starred along with another debutant Mithun Tejasvi. However, Gummalam went unnoticed. She acted in Thangar Bachan's Solla Marandha Kadhai opposite to Cheran and was nominated for the Film fare Award for the Best Tamil Actress. She appeared in a couple more Tamil films, such as Adi Thadi; starring Sathyaraj, but her films were not commercially successful.
