Sumanth is a film actor and producer, working mostly in Telugu cinema. His uncle is
, and his grandfather was late . Born on February 9, 1975, his father is Surendra Yarlagadda, and mother is the late Satyavathi Akkineni. Sumanth’s parents went to the US, a little while after he was born, and he stayed behind with his grandfather, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao, who raised him as his child.
Sumanth graduated from Hyderabad Public School in the year 1992 and studied a course in engineering at Michigan, for his undergraduate studies. As he realized that this was not a part of his career aspirations, he transferred to Columbia College in Chicago for majoring in film. For his academic excellence, he was selected in the Dean’s list in his final year in college. His first film in Tollywood, Ram Gopal Verma’s “
”, released in the year 1999, did not fare well at all, at the box office.
His first hit film was “Satyam”, co-starring Genelia D’Souza, in 2003. He revealed that he was involved in aspects of this film, other than acting. This was one of the highest hit movies in that year. One of the most critically acclaimed films of his career is Sekhar Kammulu’s “Godavari”. Sumanth’s presence in films of the comedy genre, such as “Emo Gurram Egaravachu” has received a lot of admiration from critics. He is presently co-producing and acting in a romantic comedy film, directed by Mallik Ram.
