Mohan Babu was born to the couples Manchu Narayana Swami Naidu and Lakshmaamma on March 19th, 1952 in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. He entered in the Telugu film industry through the movie Kaanavaari Kalaru in the year 1974.In the same year, he acted in Alluri Seetharama Raju. He was married to Vidya Devi and had two children. Later after her death, he married her sister Nirmala Devi. He has also acted in Tamil films.
The movie Guru (1980) in which he acted along with Kamal Haasan was a very famous one. He is noted for his role as villain and has acted in more than five hundred films till now. Some of his recent movies are Rowdy,

He has won various awards including Film fare best actor for Peddarayudu (1995), Padmashree in the year 2007 for his immense contribution to the field of Arts and Education, CineMAA Award for best supporting actor for Yamadoga in the year 2008. He was also elected as the deputy in the international parliament for safety and peace, an intergovernmental organization based in Italy.
