Dr. G.R. Ratnavel is an Indian television show presenter who worked predominantly in the Tamil talk shows. He was a dermatologist and cosmetologist by profession. Dr. G.R. Ratnavel completed MBBS and MD in Dermatology at Stanley Medical College. He worked in the same institution for over 17 years. Dr. G.R. Ratnavel was a member of an association of the Cutaneous Surgeon of India. In 2015, he received Tamil Nadu Medical Council Awards at Raj Bhavan from then-Governor DR. K. Rosaiah.
He also won Best Head of the Department award in Stanley Medical College–By Dr. Karkuzhali (Dene). On many occasions at the medical college events, as a chief guest, he was invited. He opened Avinash Skin & cosmetic Centre in Chennai for private consultations. Dr. G.R. Ratnavel became a familiar figure among the people of Tamil Nadu when he collaborated with Vendhar TV for a talk show called Hello Doctor.
Through the show, he connected with more patients across the state and cleared their queries regarding skincare routine, hair fall issues, and sex-related doubts. Dr. G.R. Ratnavel is known for the way he talks with his patients. He was a jovial person. The First cadaver skin bank at the Stanley Medical College and the Department of Cosmetology at the same institution, was established by Dr. G.R. Ratnavel. He controlled the cosmetology department at Government Stanley Medical College. Dr. Ratnavel had served in that medical college for over a decade. Dr. RathnaVel was also a dermatologist consultant at the Apollo Hospital.
He has trained many cosmetic surgeons including, Dr. V Sethuraman, who is a dermatologist cum actor. In October 2016, he was in Tiruchy, Tamil Nadu to attend, a conference. Two days before the program, he visited Rockfort Temple. While worshipping, he collapsed, and a few people in the temple carried him to a nearby hospital. Ratnavel then shifted to Apollo Hospitals in Tiruchi, where he was declared brain-dead.Dr. Ratnavelis believed to have suffered an intracranial hemorrhage. On 10th October 2016, Dr. G.R. Ratnavel, at the age of 50, passed away.
His death shook the Cosmetology department all around the state. Ratnavel's family gave consent to donate his organs. All the vital organs such as lung, kidneys, heart, cornea, and skin from his body retrieved. Last rites of Dr. G.R. Ratnavel performed in Chennai. Vendhar TV telecasted a two-hour long show as a tribute to him where all his patients called and grieved over his death.
