Ramakrishna Govardhanam, popularly known as R Govardhanam, was a famous Indian music director and composer who worked in Hindi, Tamil, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Sihala Film industries. He was born on 21 February 1918 in a Telugu family to Ramachandra Chettiar, who taught him Varnas and Kirtans. He has an elder brother named R. Sudarsanam, a music composer and director of AVM. For his first film, Jathagam, Govardhanam composed music in three songs in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. The blockbuster hit movie of his career was Pattanathil Bhootham in 1967 as the music director. Ulakamut Chilatu Ketu, Kannil Kanda Tehtu Dhyaya, and Sivakami Maganim Sethi Solladi are the hit songs from the film.
Govardhanam has worked as a music director with several composers like Viswanathan, Ilayaraja, and Deva, and also supported composers like Viswanathan Ramamurthy, Ilayaraja, Vijayabaskar, Chandra Bose, and Deva in their starting journey. Azhagai Pada Vandhen Tamilil Vorta Ilaihi, 'Kamai Badu Undan Nalla Badu, and Akkaraiil Awaniruka Ikkaraiil Nanirukka are the most loved songs from the movie Potchilai.
