Ramnath Shetty is a Tamil cinematographer who has always been interested in handling films and cameras or participating in the film industry. He joined the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu and became a cameraman. He worked as a cinematographer for the first film, Poomani, directed by his friend Mu. Kalanjiyam in 1996. After that, he worked as an assistant for the second film, Vasanth's Nee Paadhi Naan Paadhi.
The songs of the movie Poomani - 'Thol Mela Thol Mela' and 'En Paatu En Paatu'- gave him the limelight, after which he started having confidence in his work besides receiving applause for his work.
