Manikandan Ramamoorthy

Manikandan Ramamoorthy is a cinematographer based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He predominantly works as a director of photography in the Kollywood industry. He has studied Bachelor of Mass Media at the University of Bombay, Maharashtra. He has done Master of Arts in Public Relations from Madurai Kamaraj University. He also holds a certificate in Red Camera Systems and Technologies from Reducation (Red Motion Picture Camera Corporation). He also pursued a Master of Science in Visual Communication at the Loyola College.

He has also done almost 60 Corporate Films, 40 Short Films, and 30 commercials in India. He has served as an active participant in the ARRI Master Class Program (2017) and RED Education (2015) in Mumbai which were the first-ever programs introduced in India with respect to Cinematography. Moreover, he has been an active member of the Western Indian Cinematographers’ Association (WICA).

Manikandan started working as a Client Servicing Executive at the Batia Advertising Agency in April 2007. Then, he began to work as a freelance writer in Mumbai. In Mumbai, he also worked as a freelance news reporter at the Vashi Times. He did his first internship in photography at The New Indian Express in January 2012 in Chennai. Then, he was offered his first Tamil film to work as an Operative Cameraman in Arram movie. He also started working as an Assistant Cinematographer for films such as Arrambam, Anegan, Aramm, Kashmora, Maari, Neethanae en Ponvasantham, Yatchan, and a Malayalam film Puthan Panam.

Since January 2018, he has been working as a director of photography and has worked in various movies, TV series, and commercials. In 2015, he worked as a cinematographer for Nila Vaanam Kaatru Mazhai which was directed by John Romeo and starring Fareen Aslam, Benito, and Bernard. In 2019, he worked on a short film called Iravadhigaaram which was a suspense thriller, and the plot revolves around a couple whose love life gets into trouble when the girl starts hallucinating her past followed by a revenge tale and murder mystery.
