Puthiyara Maliyakkal Taj was born on 3rd January 1956 and deceased on 29th July 1990. He is known as P. M. Taj and was an imaginative Indian writer, actor, scriptwriter, and manager in Malayalam auditorium. He was a protuberant cultural personage in Kozhikode. Taj penned many plays during his small span of life and won numerous prizes consisting of the Sakthi Award, introduced in commemoration of the reformist Malayalam novelist Cherukad, and the Kerala Nataka Akademi Prize two times. P. M. Taj was born to a typical middle-class household in Kozhikode, Kerala. He was the oldest son of P. M. Alikoya, a capitalist, and K. T. Asiya. He has three children’s; Iqbal, Jabeen, and Yasmin. He was also the nephew of the playwright K. T. Muhammed. Taj's schooling was mainly in Kozhikode. He joined the Sri Gujarathi Vidyala for his early education and then took admission at Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College for his advanced education.
During his school and university days, Taj won numerous prizes in various national events. He also had a major contribution in college politics. After completion, he worked as a publishing supervisor for two years in Yuvadhara, a magazine printed by DYFI. His unveiling drama was Perumbara, issued in 1977. He wedded Bichu in 1986, and they have of two lads– Sonal Taj and Vishal Taj. His most well-known plays include Ravvunni, Pavathan Nadu, Perumbara, Mary Lawrence, Kudukka Athava Vishak kunnavante Vedantam, KanallattomThalasthanathuninnOruVaarthayumilla, KurukanKunjaammante Vaal, Perumkallan, UthramThirunallinte Kalpana Pole, EnnumPriyapetta Amma, PriyapettaAvivahidhan, Chakram, Aalmarattam, Ambalakaalla, and Agraharam. Mythologies and legends affected Taj, but he utilized them to convey an unusual message in a contemporary context.
Some of his individuals like, Ravunni, become part of an unhappy and unpleasant tale about globalization. Films in which has written are Njan Piranna Nattil (1985), Uyarum Njan Nadake (1985). Some of his other creations are KurukkanRajavayi (1987), P.C. 369 (1987), Atham Chitira Chothy (1986), and Bali (1991). He has won the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award for Kudukka the gospel of hungry man in 1982. The Cherukaad Smaraka Shakthi Award in 1983, Akilendhya Nadaka Award in 1983. He has also earned Kerala Nadaka Academy Prize in 1989 for Paavathan. One of his creations Perumbarawas taken as a reference book in 1990 by the Calicut University. Kudukka, the gospel of hungry man, was adopted as a reference book by Kerala University in 2011.
