Paul Zacharia is an Indian story writer. He was born on 5th June in the year 1945 at a small place called Urulikunnam in the Kottayam District of the Indian state of Kerala. He has published about 50 fictional as well as non-fictional stories in the Malayalam language. He writes under the pen name Zacharia. His writings fall into the wide range of the spectrum of short stories, novellas, travelogues, film scripts, literature and culture, essays on politics and children’s literature. His books have been translated into numerous Indian languages as well as international languages. His books can be found in languages like English, French, and German.
He was first published in the year 1964 at the age of 19. Zacharia received his degree of Masters in English Literature from the esteemed Bangalore University. He has also worked as a lecturer of English in Kerala as well as Bangalore. Following his lectureship, he moved to the capital city of India, New Delhi where he worked for over 20 years in media and publishing in numerous capacities. He used to work with All India Management Association, Affiliated East-West Press, India Today and the Press Trust of India. In the year 1992, he returned to Kerala. He became the member of the founding team of the channel – Asianet TV.
For seven years, he hosted the first TV review show for Print Media called Patravishesham. He has been a public speaker and a fluent orator for over two decades. He writes frequently for numerous leading magazines and newspapers. India Today, Tehelka, The Hindustan Times, Outlook, The Indian Express and The New Indian Express are some of the media platforms which have published his articles or columns in the English language. Being a fond traveler, he has travelled thoroughly in India and abroad. He has written travelogues on Britain, Saudi Arabia, China and Africa.
He currently lives in the capital city of Kerala called Thiruvananthapuram. He is a member of the Trivandrum Club and Technopark Club in Thiruvananthapuram. He is also a member of the New Delhi’s Press Club of India. He is married to Lalitha and has two children, a daughter and a son. He believes that he became a good writer because he is at first an admirable reader.
After so many years of writing, he draws his inspiration from the world around him and keeps his eyes open for observation. Paul has received multiple awards for his excellence in Literature. Kendra Sahitya Akademi and Kerala Sahitya Akademi along with Muttathu Varki, Padmarajan, Odakkuzhal, Katha and Pravasa Kairali are some of them.
