Kuthiravattam Pappu is undoubtedly one of the best comedians Malayalam cinema has ever seen. He was the most convincing and natural performer in Mollywood who knew the basic tricks of making people how to laugh. That is why he introduced a theatrical concept in his acting which fetched him more popularity in those days.
As this actor was associated in the field of theatre in a place like Kozhikode, he used Kozhikode slang in his acting which almost became a trend in movies. He used his unique style and use of the Kozhikodan dialect in many of his movies, which made him stay ahead of other comedians, and his style of comedy no actors could dare to imitate or even copy. He was damn talented! He could say the most stupid things with a straight face and make it hilarious!
All his characters he played were original and awesome. This actor was fondly called as Pappu even. This name was borrowed from a film in which he played a character in ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’, he played a character of Kuthiravattam Pappu, which ultimately became his nick name on the screen. Although he was an actor in cinema, he never had separated himself from theatre activities.
He had formed "Akshara Theatres" troupe just before his death. As he knew how to deliver a funny line, he could even make himself look scared or even haughty, or whatever the occasion the movie had demanded. A single line of his dialogue delivery even went to become Malayalam idioms later on (examples of dialogues: "Taski Viliyeda”, "Ippo Sariyakkitharam" & "Thamaraseri Churam etc.).
He was a professional theatre actor, who had acted in 1000 plays and two dramas. This actor was born in Kozhikode in 1936 and had passed away due to cardiac arrest on February 25, 2000 in his home town.
