Balu Kiriyath is a well-known director, screenwriter, and lyricist in the Malayalam film industry. He was born on 29th November 1954 in Aluva, Kerala. His father's name is RS Pillai, who is the former principal of Indian institute of commerce. His mother's name is CP Malathy Amma, and she is a retired teacher of govt. Central School. He made his debut as a director in the Malayalam film industry with the movie ‘Thakilukottaampuram’ in 1981, starring , Sheela, Mohanlal, and
in the lead roles. He also did screenplay writing and dialogue writing in the same movie. He penned the lyrics for more than fifty Malayalam films. Some of the Malayalam films directed by him are Thathamme Poocha Poocha (1984), Vendor Daniel State Licency (1994), Mimics Action 500 (1995), King Soloman (1996), Moonnu, and Maayaajaalam (1998). He was the first district President of the Kerela Science Congress, Trivandrum, and general secretary of Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (Macta) during 2012.
