He worked as an Assistant Director in the Tamil film industry on films like Seema Raja and Cadaver prior to donning the directorial hat, where he mastered practical aspects of storytelling as well as the art of film direction. Vishnu has family members that belong to the film world. His father, Sasi Shankar is a distinguished director associated with both the Tamil and Malayalam film industries. Shankar’s noteworthy direction is reflected in successful films such as Narayam, Punnaram, Mr. Butler and Kunjikoonan. All these movies created their impressions on the South Indian film industry making Sasi Shankar a remarkable director for his period. In his endeavours, Vishnu’s parental influences played the most effective roles, his mother Beena Shanker and sister Meenakshi Shankar were also quite supportive.
