Shehnad Jalal is a renowned cinematographer. Born on June 28, 1978, in Trivandrum, his parents were A Jalaludeen, a man well known in the film society, and Jahanara Jalal. Shehnad had an enriched education in his life.
Graduated in Commerce in the batch of 1996 to 1999 from the University of Kerala, India, he then got a post-graduate degree in 2001 from the same university. He holds a post-graduate diploma (2002-2005), from the well-known Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
After he graduated from the esteemed Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, he started off his career as an apprentice with the famous cinematographer Venu, and after a while went on to work alongside him in many feature-length films, documentaries, and commercials.
He debuted as a cinematographer with the movie Chitrasutram, under the guidance of director
. This film enabled him to win the Kerala State Film Award for the best cinematographer in the year of 2010. K R Manoj directed the documentary, “A Pestering Journey” that helped him win the Navaroze Contractor award for the best cameraman for documentary shooting at the 4th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, 2011.
He has worked on films like Velutha Rathrikal, Nimayakam, and Vishudhan, documentaries like Amma, On the trail of a rain song. He has also worked as a cinematographer on short films like The way she is venerated in love, and French Revolution, among others, and music videos.
