Razak Kottakkal is a legendary cinematographer and an artistic photographer in the Malayalam industry. He was born in 1959 in Wayanad, Kerala. He has left behind a tradition of black and white for ages. He plays with shadow and geometry in his photographs. His career started as a darkroom assistant in Mumbai and later honed his technical skills before establishing his studio in Kottakkal. He was deeply influenced by French humanist photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. His portfolio includes images of iconic literary figures of Kerala like Vaikhom Muhammad Basheer, M. T. Vasudevan Nair, and Kamala Surayya, also known as Madhavikutty.
