Magician Samraj

Samraj is a well-known magician who hails from Mavelikara (Alappuzha district), Kerala. His real name is George Samuel. He is an engineer who took magic as his full-time profession. He says that to become a magician, that person should be a good actor. They should be confident and should have the ability to engage the audience. They should not get nervous even if the magic gets messed up. When he was seven years old, a magician came to his school at Mullikulangara. The magician did magic with an empty Bournvita can. He pulled out a grape from the empty can. Samraj thought it would be plastic grapes but, it was real. He couldn't believe it. Later, he tried the same magic at home, and to his surprise, the magic worked. Thus, he was regarded as Junior Mandrake. But his parents didn't allow him to become one. So he continued to focus on his studies.

After many years he went to Mumbai for a job. He saw a magician at the street corner doing magic. He requested the magician to teach him magic, but the magician refused. When he begged, the magician took twenty-five rupees from him and asked him to come the next day. When Samraj arrived at the place the next day, the magician did not come. He realized that the magician cheated on him. He became sad, but when he thinks about that incident now, he appreciates the magician. Because today, when Samraj comes out after performing, there would be many parents and children requesting him to teach them magic but, Samraj wouldn't. They can learn the magic but cannot perform it. They won't be able to learn the art. When he got a job at Muscat, he met a plumber named Kutty. He was also a magician. Samraj learned magic from Kutty, and that's how his magic journey began. He has done over 8000 performances with the help of his troupe, which includes his wife and two sons. During the beginning of the pandemic, he shook hands with the Kerala Government to perform magic for free whenever they wanted him to; this would be a kind of relaxation for people undergoing mental trauma. He received the prestigious International Merlin Award in 2014 for his ‘Scary Magic.’ His passion for magic was so deep that he was ready to learn it no matter the odds. His magic continues to cast spells on us to date.
