Anjolie Ela Menon is known for her Contemporary artists. She is a well renowned Leading contemporary artists in India. She has marked her presence in both national and international art scenario. Her works have gained significant importance around the globe. Her works have acquired world acclaim and in 2006, her art works, “
” has been acquired by an Art museum in California. She did her schooling from Lawrence School in Lovedale, which is situated in the hills of Nilgiri, Tamilnadu. Even her school days she was actively involved in painting that she had already sold her works even before she completed her schooling at the age of 15.
She went on to pursue her studies at the Applied Art Institute at Mumbai. During her college days, she developed an immense interest towards the art works of Modigliani, an Italian artist. Indian painters like Amrita Shergil and MF Hussain also impressed her. Her first art show happened while she was only 18. Fifty-three of her works were showcased in that exhibition. Having received a scholarship from the French government to study in Paris as a credit to her artistic talents, she went on to explore arts and artists all around Europe and West Asia. She married her Childhood Love, Raja Menon, an Indian Navy Office. She is a recipient of one of the highest awards in India, The Padmashree. Her name has been included in the Limca book of Records and Government of NCT of Delhi honored her with the Lifetime Achievement award in the year 2013.
