M.P. Shankar was a popular Kannada film actor known for his films like Satya Harishchandra, Ratanamanjari, etc. He has also produced a movie Gandhada Gudi casting Rajkumar. He was born on 20 August 1935. He was married to Manjula. In his early days, he worked in Mysore Electricity Board as a daily wager. He also worked in a Mysore Railway shop for a mere Rs. 80 wage.
He wanted to be a wrestler and win the title 'Sri Mysore'. Unfortunately, the competition got suspended, and his dreams remained unfulfilled. His father owned a handloom textile industry. His acting talent came into notice after quite a long time in his life. He debuted as a villain in film Ratnamanjari and made a superhit entry into movies.
He acted in more than 108 movies which earned a distinction for himself. He also started a production house, “Bharani Chitra”. He got noticed for his flawless dialogues. His movies like Kaadina Rahasya and Mrugalaya created awareness about environmental issues. He became famous for his villain plays and ruled the Kannada cinema for over ten years. Due to prolonged illness, he died in his home at Mysore on 17 July 2008.
