Disha Vakani, an Indian television and commercial actress was born on 17 September 1978 in Ahmedabad, India. Her childhood was spent in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Her father was also a known theatre personality which gave her an ample opportunity to act as child actor. She graduated from Gujarat College Ahmedabad and her majors were drama and arts. Presently, she resides in Kandivli, Mumbai. Her brother is also an actor and currently working in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as Sundarlal.

Disha began her career from Gujarati plays including Lali Lila, v/s Dhamal Patel as stage actress. Afterwards, she has got small role in film Devdas (2002) and later in (2008).

However, the breakthrough of her career came in 2008 when she was selected as Daya Jethalal Gada in one of the most comic series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. She has had the previlige to win Indian Television Academy Awards for Best Actress twice once in 2008 and 2009 for her comic role as Daya Ben. She also worked in several TV commercials.

She has also worked in various Bollywood films including Phool Aur Aag, C Kkompany, Jodha Akbar, Jaana..Let’s Fall in Love, Mangal Pandey: The Rising, Devdas and 2050.

She has won 12th Indian Telly Award, 1st Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards India, 3rd and 4th Zee Gold Awards and twice Indian Television Academy Awards.
