Saurav Gurjar, a tall and bulky Indian actor is widely recognised as Bhima, in Star Plus’ mythological series Mahabharata. He was born and brought up in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The actor was previously a wrestler before he got the role of Bhima. Hailing from a family of wrestlers, with both his father and uncle being wrestlers, it was no surprise that Saurav chose to become a wrestler and also won many state level championships and the National Kickboxing Gold medal.
Saurav never aspired to become an actor. He was invited for an audition after the production crew saw his profile on a social networking site. As Saurav himself accepts, it was his physique that got him the role and not his acting skills, in which he had no previous experience. He was however trained by
Rajat Kapoor
to act in a series of workshops and Saurav delivers some impressive performance in the show.
Saurav, as his role requires is a physique maniac. At 6’2” and a weight of 135 kilos, he says it is important for him to be in shape due to the nature of his role, which involves fist fights and sole fights. At present, Saurav films for Mahabharata as well as Ring ka King, but he is open to other roles and wishes not to stick to a particular stereotype.
