He was mesmerized by the magnificent grandeur of the film industry and decided to choose his career as in actor at the young age of 14. His first experience in acting was when he joined a theater group called Chingari, in Delhi in 1983. He was first cast in the mainstream movie, Dil Chahata Hai, directed by Farhan Akhtar, where he played the role of Preity Zinta’s character’s uncle. This role brought him great acclaim and later he worked for Meera Nair, in her movie Monsoon Wedding. After this, his career accelerated, and he featured in a number of critically acclaimed films like Corporate and Bheja Fry.

He also directed many awards winning films such as Raghu Romeo, which won the National Award for the Best Feature Film in Hindi, and his latest directed movie in Ankho Delhi, which was released in 2014 and won Star Screen Award for Best Story and also the Filmfare Award for Best Story. His acting also secured him many prestigious awards. Khayal Gatha won the award for Best Film (Critic). He also starred in the Bengali movie, Iti Mrinalini, against Konkona Sen Sharma, directed by Aparna Sen. Rahul Roy is a well-known Indian model-turned-actor and producer in television and Bollywood film industry. He was born on February 9, 1968, in Kolkata, West Bengal in India to Indira Roy and Deepak. He studied at Lawrence School in Sanawar. Rahul is related to Cory Walia, a popular personality in the fashion world. He got married to fashion model, Rajalaxmi Khanvilkar, in the year 2000 and they had a divorce in 2014. Before his marriage, he was known for his Casanova image. In the late 80s, he stayed in Delhi to finish college and did modeling at the same time. His mother wrote an article about a fashion glossy and Mahesh Bhatt, a renowned film director, became interested in meeting her. That’s when he saw Rahul’s pictures and asked if he’s interested in working in Hindi films. His mother asked him to meet the director at his home in Juhu. When they met, Bhatt narrated a line about the film, Aashiqui, and Rahul agreed to do it. Aashiqui, a Bollywood musical romance film, happened to him in the year 1990, and it became an all-time blockbuster of the year. After the success of this film, Rahul signed some films, but most of those movies failed at the box-office, or it got shelved. He worked in many films including Majhdhaar, Pyar Ka Saaya, Jaanam and Dilwale Kabhi Na Hare. He was noted for his performance in the Hindi horror film, Junoon, in 1992. In the late 90s, he started playing supporting roles. Rahul was cast in K. Balachander’s Dilon Ka Rishta, but due to the death of the producer, R.C. Prakash, the project failed to wrap up. He was supposed to do another important film entitled Ayudh, by K. Balachander, but due to the untimely death of the director, the film didn’t materialize. Other films that were shelved were Premabhishek, Dil Diya Chori Chori, Kalyug, Tune Mera Dil Le Liya, Vajra and Jab Jab Dile Mile. Rahul was supposed to do the Bollywood remake of Kevin Costner’s Revenge, but it was also shelved. He took a hiatus for four long years and returned in the year 2005, through the Bollywood film, Meri Aashiqui. In 2006, he did films like Bipasha – The Black Beauty, Naughty Boy, Rafta Rafta and he also joined the first season of the reality show, Bigg Boss on Sony TV. Rahul won the game show by public votes in the following year. In 2014, he was starred in the psycho-social thriller film, To B or Not to B and played a negative role in Kumar Babloo’s 100 Crores.
