Anthony Ruban is a renowned sound designer in Indian cinema. He has designed sound for Rajinikanth’s most controversial movie ‘ Kabali.’ Talking of significant sound design, he feels that sound has to be always narrative. He feels that a lot of scenes need distinct focus by a sound engineer as per the screenplay. He did the exclusive sound design for a ground walk of Rajinikanth.

Ruban feels that sound should support the character and it should be displayed along with the them. One has to enlarge the space of the scene only with the help of a sound. When Ruban read the script of Kabali, he had an element of understanding within him that the film had a unique combination of Rajinikanth, the superstar's image and powerful screenplay of Pa Ranjith.

When Ruban read the script, he had a feeling that sound had to be enlarged in three dimensions- one was the character, the second was the that the script matched with superstar’s style of acting and the third was that the film is only made for the superstar and superstar alone. The first element of the importance of the sound that he held in mind was that the sound had to focus on Rajinikanth’s presence; the second was the character was so strong. that he didn't leave any blank space that should identify with the character of the superstar.

In one word, Pa Ranjith’s screenplay needed a powerful sound design according to the emotions displayed by the superstar. For instance, in some scenes, Ruban understood that the superstar had to spell anger and emotions in his eyes. Hence, the sound had to be apt for the scenes. Coming backs to emotions displayed, the sound had to lend equal support to the background music, and it had to connect to the character and emotions being displayed. So the viewers could identify the importance of sound techniques in Indian cinema. Ruban also was grateful to the music director Santhosh Narayanan, who gave him the space to contribute to the design of the sound as per the narrative of the film.

The cinematography done by Murali G. was so strong that it matched his style of sound. The hardest sound design work he did in 'Kabali' was to add a Malaysian flavor in the sound system that could be identified with by the Malaysian culture and people. He began his career by composing music for short film 'Thread'(2009) which was directed by Lilium Leonard. Then, he composed sound for a Marathi movie 'Deool,’which was directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni. The film was to show the globalization of small towns with a political backdrop.

For the movie 'Dear Dad'(2016), Anthony Ruban was credited with sound Design title which had sync sound by Radhakrishnan.

The film was a strong narration that spoke of the relationship of a 45-year old father Arvind Swamy and his son played by Himanshu Sharma. It was a neat movie directed by Tanuj Bhramar.
