Dharampreet

Dharampreet is a renowned Punjabi singer. He was born in 1976 as Bhupinder Dharma in Bilaspur, Moga District in Punjab to Balvir Kaur. After completing his studies, he studied music at dhadi Gurbax Singh Albela in Buraj Village. He started his singing career in the year 1993 after the release of his first album, Khatra Hai Sohanya Nu that made him a household name in Punjab. His next album, Dil Naal Khed’di Rahi was released in 1997, which became a huge success and made him an overnight star.

Dharampreet’s later albums like Parh Satgur Di Bani, Aina Kade Vi Nahi Roya, and Ajj Sada Dil Torh Ta, made the music companies earned a lot of profit. Most of the tracks he released became popular and due to his unique style of singing, he was called as the King of Punjabi Sad Songs. After more than two decades, he had released over 15 albums including his last album, Emotion of Heart (2010).

Since then, he confined in working at local shows only. On the night of June 8, 2015, Dharampreet committed suicide by hanging himself in a ceiling fan at his house in Bathinda. According to his mother, the Punjabi singer would often say that the ceiling fan will take his life. When he did not open the door until the next morning, his mother called for help to forced open the door. According to reports, Dharampreet has suffered depression due to a fall down on his career. His body was cremated in Bilaspur.
