Gautam Talwar is the Chief Content Officer of MX Player, an Indian over-the-top platforms and offline video player, owned by the Times Internet. He was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, where he attended the Learner’s Academy School.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the National College (formerly National College of Business and Technology) in Virginia, USA. For his further studies, he enrolled in the K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research in Mumbai, where he received his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics.
His first job was as a management trainee for the Grey Group, a global advertising and marketing agency. He later became the account manager and strategic planner at the Mumbai headquarters of the mullenlowe Lintas Company, where he worked for six years till 2004. On 1st February of the same year, he married Priyanka Bakhru, who is the founder of Heal With Seven, a spiritual healing and consulting firm. He spent the next three years at Lowe & Partners in Dubai as the regional account director of Unilever in the Middle Eastern & North African (MENA) areas.
He contributed to numerous projects of the business, including the brands of Axe, Rexona, OMO, Lifebuoy, Signal, and Fair & Lovely. He was also the strategic planner for Almarai, the largest juice brand in MENA region. He was felicitated with the Campaign Gold Award for best-integrated marketing campaign & the Unilever Internal Gold Award for global brand activation in 2005, two consecutive Cannes Finalist Certificates, the New York Silver and the EPICA Silver, all for Axe. Moreover, he won the Silver Effies Award for his PSI campaign that spread awareness about HIV and AIDS through the ‘Balbir Pasha’ advertisement.
In 2006, he joined Kaleidoscope Entertainment as its Creative and Business Head, developing original media content for the platforms of mobile and television. Both the movies had gripping plots but did not have great impacts on the viewers, eventually receiving mixed reviews. In 2010, Rediffusion Y&R hired him as its Executive Vice President, later promoting him to the rank of the Chief Strategy Officer within a year. Gautam had five successful career years at the organization before he quit his job to found Culture Chaat Incorporated in 2016, a company that produces educational and entertaining content for children, including the popular “Jalebi Street” which aired on Nickelodeon Junior and has over sixty million views on youtube.
With MX Player’s recent entry in the OTT sector, Gautam is working on creating original online content, planning to release five to six shows in English, Hindi and other regional languages every quarter year. The brand’s most popular series consist of the Hindi shows, “ Hey Prabhu Hey Prabhu, the rib-tickling show on Zee Sarthak, >> Read More... ,” “Aafat,” and “I’m Mature,” along with the Tamil-Telugu serial Lots of Love.
