Birendranath Sircar, one of the well-renowned film producers and the creator of New theatres in Calcutta, was born on 5th July 1901. He was born in Bhagalpur, Bengal Presidency, under the British rule. He was taken. to Sir N.N. Sircar, Bengal Advocate-General. B.N Sircar studied at Hindu School in Calcutta, after completing his Civil Engineering from the University of London. Upon returning from London, he actively engaged in building a cinema hall, after which he developed a profound interest in learning more about the cinema world. So, in1 1931, he went on to be the producer of two silent movies. One of the most significant films that New Theatres produced was Devdas, the adaption of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s novel.
But in 1946, The new Theatres begin to suffer some level of losses, after which it was limited to the Bengali industry only. Birendranath Sircar passed away on 28th November in 1980, leaving his immortal legacy behind. In the 1940s era, B.N. Sircar was the President of the BMPA.
