Born as Gulshan Singh Ahuja, Arun Kumar Ahuja is better known by his stage name Aroon. Arun Kumar Ahuja was born in the pre-partition Indian city Gujranwala of Punjab, India, on 17th January 1917. Impressed by his acting, Mehboob Khan decided to cast Arun Kumar Ahuja in his movie Ek Hi Raasta in 1939. Ek Hi Raasta, a social cinema, also saw the debut of actor Sheikh Mukhtar.

Arun Kumar Ahuja also made his singing debut in the film. From then on, his career in the industry started dominating, and he received innumerable opportunities. One of his most breathtaking acting was in the film Aurat, directed by Mehboob Khan in 1940. He played the role of Shamu in the cinema, which later got adapted into Hindi under the name Mother India. Mother India was one of the sternest contenders for Oscars and lost the race by a narrow margin. It was in the year 1942, Arun Kumar Ahuja and Nirmala Devi first met. It was during the filming of the Bollywood movie Savera. Following Savera, both had starred in the movies Chalis Karod (1946), Ghunghat (1946), and Sehra (1948). Later, they got married in real life. Some of his other films are Return of Toofan Mail, Shankar Parvati, Chhoti Maa, Amrapali, Khooni, Usha Haran, Sudhar, Ghunghat, Mera Suhaag, Jai Mahalaxshmi, Kashmir, and many more. The actor started his own production company in the year 1948. The only movie he produced under his banner was Sehra, in which he acted along with Nirmala Devi.

But, unfortunately, the film doesn’t fare so well in the box office, and so he met with losses. After an excellent career in acting for over 13 years, Arun Kumar Ahuja quit performing in 1954, with his last film being, Aulad. He devoted most of his break with his family after he retired from the cinema. Arun Kumar Ahuja passed away on July 3, 1998, at 81 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Arun Kumar Ahuja has been an indispensable part of the Indian cinema industry in the 1940s, and we will forever cherish the works he has done for the Hindi film industry.
