For all those well versed with the vast environs of politics, Sanjay Nirupam is someone, love him or hate him, you simply can’t ignore. Brazen outspokenness has meant that he is clearly not going to win any popularity contests in the Congress, his adopted party, anytime soon. Labeled a “motor mouth”, his reputation has been continuously reinforced by his confrontational, anti-party antics; he recently allowing his party’s very own mouthpiece, ‘Congress Darshan,’ to slam Jawaharlal Nehru and label Sonia Gandhi’s father a “fascist soldier.” This hasn’t helped his cause, and his political career continues to stagnate since he joined the party in 2005.
Before getting into politics, Nirupam was a journalist. He started his political career by joining the Shiv Sena and was molded into a solid political figure under the tutelage of the Late Bal Thackeray. Nirupam was said to be the apple of Thackeray’s eye but started to feel sidelined and saw greener pastures outside the party. He left the party in 2005 and joined Congress just a month later.
Sanjay participated in the second season of the popular reality show, Bigg Boss Bigg Boss Tamil is the Tamil language version of t >> Read More... . Unfortunately for him, just like his party colleagues, even the audience didn’t take much fancy of him, and he was eliminated in the first week. He later alleged that the votes were rigged.
Nirupam’s persona has always courted controversy and got him embroiled in numerous tiffs with political contemporaries including those in his party and various defamation cases.
Nirupam is a three- time ‘Member of Parliament (MP)’ and has been nominated as an MP for both the Shiv Sena and Congress.
