Sagar Shiriskar is a filmmaker, photographer, cinematographer, and visual artist. He has done PG diploma in Cinematography, Film Video production, and a postgraduate certificate course in Direction from the Film and Television Institute of India. He has been working as an independent filmmaker and photographer for the past eleven years and is known for making various short films, feature films, and documentaries.
His short films have been screened in festivals across India and internationally. Some of his popular projects are To Let the World In Volume 1, Benegal's New Cinema, An Old Dog's Diary, The Field Guide to Evil, Indian Space Dreams, Katib-E-Taqdeer, Waschhauschen (Wash House), Amusement City (Manoranjan Nagri), Repose, and Diaries from an Unconventional Journey.
In 2019, Sagar’s work ‘Manoranjan Nagri’ was exhibited at the December Exhibition, Kunst Museum Winterthur, Switzerland. He was also a part of the Artist-in-residence program at the Villa Straüli, where his work was exhibited, and some of his work is part of the permanent collection. His work has also been exhibited at Rathaus für Kultur Lichtenstein (Switzerland), at KHOJ (Delhi), at the National Gallery of Modern Art (Delhi), at Bonn (Germany), as a part of the Traveling Nikon Photo Contest 2016- 2017 Photo Exhibition and at the Museum of Applied Art Belgrade (Serbia).
His work has also been published in the Mumbai Reader 2017. His photographs have been published by international and national media houses and journals, such as Toggenburger Tagblatt, Blouin Art Info, The Hindu, The Guardian, The Caravan, Powderzine, Nat Geo Traveller, Himal South Asian, Nepal, Wherever Mag, Mondo Arc, Live Mint & The Wall Street Journal, Le Journal de la Photographie, Sunday Guardian, Der Greif, and the Business Standard, etc.
Sagar has won many awards and honors for his work. He was the winner of Chance of a Lifetime, a documentary series produced by Hyde Park Entertainment Inc. & United Nations. He also co-directed three short documentary films on the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He has also won the Nikon Photo Contest ‘Next Generation Award’ (2017), ‘Tamron Best Travel Photo Competition’ by the Get Lost magazine, ‘India Photography Challenge’ (2012), an initiative by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) & Incredible India. He was also awarded the Prince Claus Mobility Fund for Culture and Development to exhibit his work and be a part of the Open Spaces artist residency in Switzerland.
