Talvin Singh is a recognized English musician, producer and composer. He is well known for creating an innovative fusion of Indian Classical music and drum and bass. Today, Singh is known as a pioneer of Asian Underground. He was efficient at playing tabla since his childhood. At the age of 16, he was sent to India to study tabla under the supervision of Sangeet Acharya Ustad Lachman Singh Seen of Punjab.
By the late 1980s, he decided to gain success in the fusion of sounds. For this, he became capable enough at playing both tabla and singing on the ‘Kiss Them for Me’. Singh also released his solo debut album named Ok in the year 1998. This record had outstanding results which is why he was awarded with the Mercury Music Prize in 1999. He also collaborated with David Sylvian. Moreover, he worked with Madonna for her album namely- Music.
Singh gained a lot of fame in his life, he also won an award at the UK Asian Music Award for his ‘Commitment to Scene’. He was also awarded an OBE (Most Excellent Order of British Empire) in 2014 Birthday Honors. Singh is referred to as the ‘Man who started a music revolution.’ talking about his music style, Singh is proficient at playing tabla. He is also an electronic musician, music theorist, record producer and DJ.
He is best known as the Father of Modern Asian Electronica Music in his solo compositions. He has also created the seminal London club named Anokha, which performs at the Tate Gallery. He is also working on many film projects. His hard work helped him gain a lot of success today.
