Rupak Kulkarni is a famous Indian Bansuri player, born on 19th of April 1968, into a musical family. He learned basic music lessons from his father, Pandit Malhar Rao Kulkarni. Later he continued to acquire music skills from Padma Vibhushan Hariprasad Chaurasia to represent Maihar Gharana. As a first disciple of Chaurasia, Rupak specialized in different music forms like Dhrupad, Khayal, and Tantrakari at the age of 9. He has done his graduation from Mumbai University with B.A. (Political Science). His first solo flute performance was at Darbar Hall in Baroda in front of more than 1200 music lovers when he was only 11. Since then, he started performing in concerts and music conferences all over India and abroad. He is known as the creator of Adbhut Bansuri meaning Wonder Flute.
His flute creations are aired on All India Radio, World Space Radio, and popular TV channels like Doordarshan, Zee TV, Star TV, and CNN-IBN. He released his first music album when he was 18, titled Tenderly. After that, many of his albums was released by HMV, Times Music, World Wide Records, Sense World in London, and Navras. He has also worked with Hollywood and Bollywood music directors. Some of his works include background music in Bollywood films, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam, Fiza, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, etc. He was awarded with the Panhala Ghosh Award, and TOP Grade in All India Radio. His most memorable show was at Asian Super Flaurist Festival. With performing concerts across America, Russia, Australia, France, Japan, and other countries, Rupak has acquired mastery in his playing at a very young age.
