Sneha Khanwalkar

She is a famous Indian music director known for her work in Bollywood. Born on April 28, 1983, Sneha is 31 years old. She is a Marathi by origin but was born and brought up in Indore. Her family was greatly involved in the Gwalior Gharana of Hindustani Classical Music, so she learned music as a child. After completing her schooling her parents moved to Mumbai in 2001 aiming of her to join an engineering college, but Sneha had some other plans. At first, she joined animation leading to art direction and then to her childhood love - music. Thus, choosing music direction as her career.

In 2004, she worked in a film called “The Hope” which competed at the InternationalesFilmfest Emden in Germany. She also worked in the movie, “KAL- Yesterday and Tomorrow." She still hadn’t made big in Bollywood, so the turning point in her career was Ram GopalVerma’s movie “Go”. In 2008, she traveled through rural areas of North India including Haryana, where she attended the Ragini Music Festival. This visit helped her in making one of her most hit soundtracks! Apart from composing songs and singing, she has also been active on small screen. She hosted a music-based MTV miniseries called “Sound Trippin” which allowed her to travel different places within India like Leh, Punjab, Banaras, Yellapur, Goa, etc. Her show consisted of total 11 Episodes. Travelling to different places helped her in taking in the culture and music of the region. The variety of the culture she has experienced can be sensed in the music she has composed time to time. She was nominated for the best music director category at the 58 th Filmfare awards.

Sneha Khanwalkar has turned the Bollywood industry upside down with her avant-garde and refreshingly different style of music. Hailing from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, she was raised and later shifted to Mumbai to try her luck in the glam industry. Her parents were very supportive of her creative aspirations. The background in animation and sound engineering formed the bedrock of Sneha's style. She made her first kind of statement with her music for the film "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!" directed by Dibakar Banerjee. Her career, however, actually took off when she did the Gangs of Wasseypur series for director Anurag Kashyap. Her scores have been credited for bringing in local sounds and folk elements to add new and special flavor to Bollywood music.

Apart from her movie career, Sneha created a show for MTV titled "Sound Trippin'." The show debuted on 2 March 2012 with Sneha Khanwalkar exploring India's vibrant music culture, collecting sounds, each from a distinct place, and finally merging all those sounds to sing a song. A production like that just cemented her as a pioneer in the merging of past and future music forms. She went on to write music for films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Manto to then prove agile enough to do just about any kind of song. Even with her achievements, Sneha keeps a modest profile picking quality work over doing lots of projects. She likes to take on tasks that spark her creativity instead of chasing fame. Sneha's unique way of making music has won her loyal fans, and she continues to shape the industry.
