It was the year 1960 which saw the entry of Joy Mukherjee in Bollywood. He was cast opposite Sadhana in Love in Shimla. Later, his pairing with
Asha Parekh
did good to him since they together produced several hits. Aao Pyar Karen, Door Ki Aawaz, Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena, Shagird, Jee Chhahta Hai and Ishaara were declared superhits. Good music proved to be an advantage in his films.Â
In the later stages of his career, Joy Mukherjee took up direction and production. His directorial venture Hum Saaya didn’t work. In fact, he was also the producer of the film. His following films as director and producer also didn’t reap fruits. He tasted success with his home venture Ek Baar Muskara Do but that didn’t help him in sustaining in the industry. was the only hit. In fact, it had a dream run at the box office. He and Asha Parekh delivered 4 super hits. The two films in which he acted with Sadhana were also super hits and the songs were widely appreciated. He delivered 5 super hits while being paired with Saira Banu.Â
Out of the 32 films, in which Joy worked as an actor, 20 were blockbusters. Music was the strong point in most of his films. Later he also did supporting roles.Â
On the personal front Joy Mukherjee is wedded to Neelam and he is the uncle of renowned Bollywood star Kajol. He is blessed with two sons and one daughter. Joy Mukherjee breathed his last at the age of 73.
