Kamini Kaushal is a popular film and TV actress. She was born at Lahore, in 16 January 1927. Her father was a professor in “Government College Lahore, British India.” She had done her graduation from Kinnaird College in Lahore. She married to her brother in law because her sister passed away leaving behind very young children.

She had started her carrier as stage actress in Delhi. She has performed as Radio artist also. Then there was a great boost in her carrier as an artist when she performed a notable role in the film “Neecha Nagar” by , in 1946. Neecha Nagar’s story was based on the difference and distance between the rich and poor in the society.

She has performed with all superstar celebrities of her time, such as , , etc. She had lead roles in many films of her time and won Film Fare Best Actress Award for role that she had played in Biraj Bahu, in 1956. And she also awarded with Kalpna Chawla Excellence Award in 2013. In 1965, she started playing characters roles in films; Shaheed, Dadnumbari etc.

An interesting fact about Kamini is that she was the first love of Dilip Kumar, the superstar of her time. Dilip Kumar has admitted in his biography that Kamini was first woman, who had fascinated him, but when he proposed her, she did not show any interest in his proposal because she was already married.

Kamini has written and published books for children. She also worked for TV serials. She has played roles in Hindi TV serials, such as, Shano Ki Shadi. Shano Ki Shadi is the most popular TV serial on Star Plus. In this serial she performed the role of Bibi; Shano’s grandmother who is aloud and feisty woman. Now she is still working as TV artist in different serials.
