This Bollywood actress got into fame and achieved super stardom with . She was the leading lady ( like ) of Rajesh Khanna in many of his films and became the queen in Bollywood in 1970s. She was a dancing diva in those days who could perform both sexy numbers (Mere Sanam or Apna Desh) and even dance as a simple village girl singing amidst of trees (Dushman or Roti) . Her hair cut style and dress costumes became very popular even in the film industry. In a film Brahmachari, the costumes that were designed for her song (Aaj Kal Tere Mere Charche) is now being copied by Priyanka Chopra in many of her films. Earlier, when she made her debut in films, she was confined mostly to dances and small supporting roles. She has been often the heroine in B-grade movies with . She used to move around studios to get break in films, and from B-grade movies of the sixties, she became an A-list star in the seventies. Besides Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra and were the other two heroes who acted with Mumtaz in maximum number of films. For her grace and tomboyish nature, even had fell in love with this actress.
