Suresh Oberoi is a character actor and the father of actor
Vivek Oberoi. He was born as Vishal Kumar Oberoi, on December 17, 1946, in Quetta, Baluchistan, present-day Pakistan. His father was a Punjabi businessman named Anand Sarup Oberoi. He four brothers and sisters. His entire family relocated to Hyderabad state in India, during the time of Partition. Here, his family established a chain of medical stores.
Oberoi studied in George’s Grammar School in Hyderabad and was also actively involved in sports, while there. He was a champion in tennis and swimming and won the President’s Award as Boy Scout. After his father’s death, a little while after Suresh finished high school, he ran the pharmaceuticals’ chain, along with his brother. He speaks the languages Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, and English fluently. He had a great passion for acting from a very young age, and also had a good voice, due to which he gained entry into radio shows and stage plays in the early 70’s.
He attended the Film and Television Institute of India, in Pune. He met his future wife, Yashodhara, before joining this institute, in Tamil Nadu. He married her in Madras in the year 1974. The couple has a son, Vivek, and a daughter, Meghna. The couple relocated to Mumbai after their son’s birth. Suresh Oberoi was one of the leading models in the late 70’s.
He was a part of the radio program “Mukaddar Ka Sikandar”. His Bollywood debut film was called, “Ek Baar Phir,” released in the year 1978, and it wasn’t much of a commercial success. He took a break from films but re-entered later with the film Lawaaris. After that, he appeared in four to five films on an average every year, until the early 2000’s. He has worked in over 135 films. He has also hosted the show, “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, which aired on Zee TV. He was felicitated with the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in the 1986 film,
