Nakshab Jarchavi was a lyricist, poet, director, and writer who was born in Jarcha city of Uttar Pradesh on 12 July, 1918. He studied at the Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh. After graduation, he moved to Bombay, Maharashtra, and started working in Hindi cinema as a poet and lyricist. He has written lyrics for many popular songs from the mid-40s till the early 50s. He is popularly known for writing the lyrics for a qawwali ‘Aahein Na Bhareen Shikway Na Kiye, Kuchh Bhi Na Zaban Se Kaam Liya’ for a film called Zeenat (1945) produced under the banner of Eastern Pictures film.

Its ghazal called Ghabra Ke Jo Hum Sar Ko, written by Nakshab, was rendered by Rajkumari. The haunting song Ayega Anewala was perhaps one of the most famous songs of Mahal whose melody was composed by Khemchand Prasad. Even after the film’s success, the struggle continued for Nakshab.

Nakshab decided to move to Pakistan in 1962, where he made two films, one was Fanoos which was released in 1963, and the other was Maikhana, released in 1964, in which he introduced a new music director Rashid Attre, and a new Pakistani actress named Firdous.

Later, both achieved major success and popularity in the Pakistani film industry. Jarchavi also played an instrumental role in changing the name of film composer Shaukat Ali to Nashad for his film Nagma in 1953. Nashad decided to retain this name for the rest of his life, and it was also Jarchavi who convinced him to migrate to Pakistan from India for composing music for his film Maikhana. Nashad also won the Nigar Award for Best Music for the same film in 1964. Nakshab and Bollywood actress Nadira fell in love with each other and got married. Together, they produced films like Nagma and Raftar. However, they got separated after some years of their marriage and eventually got divorced in the late 1950s. The multitalented lyricist, director, and poet Nakshab Jarchavi passed away on 24 August, 1967 in Karachi, Pakistan at the age of 42.
