Amirbai Karnataki was an Indian actress and singer. She was born at Banglore, Karnataka, India in the year 1906, she was fifty-eight years old and died in the year 1965. At the age of fifteen, she completed her matriculation and went to Bombay. She was also a playback singer. She was a famous playback singer at Hindi Cinema. She was also known in Kannada Kokila. The freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi was a big fan of her song ‘Vaishnav Jan To.’ She worked in the cinema from 1935 to 1961. She was a famous singer and actress. She performed well in Kannada and Gujarati language.

She has sung many songs and acted in many movies. Some of her hit songs are “O Jaanay Waalay Balamwa Laut Kay Aa Laut Kay Aa” it was sung in Rattan in the year 1944. “Dheere Dheere Aa Re, Baadal,” from the film ‘kismat’ in the year 1943. “Priya madhuvanadali” is a kannada song. She also composed music for ‘Wahab Pictures’ film Shehnaaz in the year 1948. In that year she left the Hindi cinemas for Gujarati and Marwani films.
