Hemant Trivedi is one of India’s most important and respected fashion designers. He is also a fashion stylist and a choreographer for the fashion shows that his creations are displayed in. He completed his graduation from the Australian Technical Institute of Fashion Design. After this, he went on to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Even though he was pursued by some international labels, he came back to India in the early 1980’s as he believes that India is his homeland. He was one of the first professional and qualified fashion designers in our country. He chose to work in India as he says that it is his biggest inspiration for his designs, and he could not imagine living anywhere else when there is so much diversity in India. One of his aims is to contribute to the growth of the Indian Fashion Industry.
He has succeeded in doing so. Hemant is the director of fashion at one of India’s leading stores: Sheetal. He is also the design professor at S.N.D.T University in Mumbai since 20 years. His fashion shows have been stunning. These shows have been put up in India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, China, Egypt, UK, USA, UAE and the Far East. He is most well-known, in the fashion show circuit, for his work in the Femina Miss India shows. At these shows, he has been in charge of grooming and choreography of the contestants. He has also created the costumes for the winner of major beauty pageants. His most successful costume creations being the ones made for Aishwarya Rai when she won Miss World in 1995, Diana Hayden in 1998 and Priyanka Chopra in 2000. Hemant tends to stay away from the public eye, yet he is known as a trendsetter in the fashion world.
