Soumendra Padhi is a movie director. He predominantly works in Bollywood. He was born in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. He studied at the Sainik School, Bhubaneswar and Jeypore Public School. He completed his graduation from Utkal University. He pursued his IIT Training. After the completion of his studies, he worked in Hyderabad for an IT firm.

In 2006, he shifted to Mumbai to get formal training or filmmaking and animation, after which he joined Code Red Films as an assistant director. The movie is based on a true story. It is about India's youngest marathon runner (at an age of four), who ran from Bhubaneswar to Puri, which is a distance of 65 km in just seven hours and two mins. This story touched thousands of hearts and also inspired many. It was a blockbuster. The film won The National Award for Best Children's Film in 2006. He states that he is always inclined towards child prodigies.

He auditioned almost 1200 kids to find a kid who is suited for the role perfectly.

Soumendra Padhi was born in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa. Soumendra Padhi worked as a Software engineer before he decided to make a shift towards directing. He released his first film in 2016 titled Budhia Singh- Born to Run in collaboration with famous Bollywood celebrities Manoj Bajpayee and Tillotama Shome. Soumendra Padhi was born in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa. He completed his early education from Sainik school in Orissa and then moved on to Jeypore Public School also in Bhubaneshwar and completed his graduation from Utkal University. He went on to study engineering in IIT, after which he joined an IT firm in Hyderabad. In 2006, he shifted to Mumbai to pursue his passion in film making and animation. He completed a course in film making after which he joined the Code Red Films company in the position of an assistant director. During this period, he also worked on several short films, documentaries and music videos. While working in Code Red Films he developed the script for the film which he titled Budhia Singh- Born to Run. This film was his directorial debut in the film industry. The original title of the film was Duronto. The film is based on the true story of India’s youngest marathon runner who ran a total distance of 65 km from Bhubaneshwar to Puri. He completed this feat in a record time of seven hours and two minutes. The film featured prominent Bollywood celebrities Manoj Bajpayi, who portrayed the role of the coach Biranchi Das and Tillotama Shome who portrays the young Budhia Singh’s mother. The movie which released in 2016 was very well received by the audience. The film went on to win the National Award for the Best Children’s Film in the same year it got released. Following the success of his first film, Soumendra Padhi worked on the TV series titled Jamtara: Sabka Time Aayega. The TV series released in the year 2020 and featured ten episodes.
