Dayal Nihalani

Dayal Nihalani is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer. He makes gritty, realistic pictures that frequently tackle social and political concerns. Strong acting, intelligent direction, and an objective look at Indian society, are all appreciated for Nihalani's films. Nihalani was born in 1945, in Bombay, India. He has pursued film education in Pune from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). Nihalani worked as an assistant director on several films following her graduation from FTII, including Kalyug and Bhumika (1977), directed by Shyam Benegal (1981). Nihalani made his directorial debut with Blind War movie in the year 1987.

The film was both critically and financially successful, making Nihalani a well-known new face in Indian cinema. The success of Nihalani's later works, such as Karm Yodha (1992), Gambler (1995), and Insaaf: The Last Justice (1997), solidified his standing as one of India's most significant filmmakers. In addition to directing, Nihalani has written and produced several films. He is also the founder of the Association for the Development of Indian Cinema at the Film and Television Institute of India (SPIC). The National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi was given to Nihalani's movies for Aakrosh (1980) and Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, among other accolades (1990).
