Shome was born in Kolkata. Since her father was in Indian Air Force, Shome was raised in different states. After completing her high school education, Shome went to Lady Shri Ram College ion Delhi. After completing her post-graduation, she worked as a teaching artist at the University of New York. She taught theater in a US Prison to third-degree convicts. She stayed in New York for four years. In 2008, she returned to India and took up a residence in Mumbai. She was approached by Mira Nair to feature in her film Monsoon Wedding. She portrayed the role of Alice in the movie. After that, she was offered the role of Deepa in the movie Shadows of Time directed by Florian Gallenberge. She also appeared in an Australian movie named The Waiting City directed by Claire McCarthy, in which she played the role of a nun. She also starred in a movie named Gangor directed by Italo Spinelli, which was based on Mahashweta Devi’s novel. She played the role a social worker in the movie. She also appeared in Tasher Desh directed by Qaushiq Mukherjee.

She portrayed the role of Mrs. Ahmadi in the movie Shanghai.
