Shivendra Singh Dungarpur was born on 25th August 1969 in Patna, Bihar, India. He is an Indian filmmaker, producer, cum activist. He completed his education at St.Stephen's college Delhi and the Film and Television Institute of India. He started his career in 1993. He got married to Treesha Cherian, a writer/director of, Film Heritage Foundation. He has acclaimed many awards, including the National Film Award for best chronicle film in 2012 and the National Film Award for best historical reconstruction/compilation film in 2012. He founded the Dungarpur films in 2001 and the Film Heritage Foundation in 2014. He won awards for his documentary celluloid man, a movie based on the life of noted film scholar preservationist and also the founder of the national film archive of India P.K.Nair. He belongs to an erstwhile royal family of Dungarpur state that still has his family seat in Dungarpur Rajasthan, and he's the nephew of Raj Singh Dungarpur. He started his career in films as an assistant director to author writer and director Gulzar and worked with him on films like Lekin and Libaas and enrolled in the film and television institute of India Pune to study film direction and scriptwriting. He graduated from FTII in 1994. He started his production house Dungarpur films in 2001, and in 2014 he supported the film Heritage Foundation to preserve India's vulnerable film heritage. The Foundations are endangered presently has about 500 films together with Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali, Raj Kapoor's Shree 420, and lots more.
He has been invited to be a Creative Committee Member of the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna. In 2017, Shivendra was elected to the chief Committee of FIAF at the 2017 FIAF Congress hosted by the Academy of show Arts & Sciences in LA. In 2018, Shivendra completed his third documentary on famous Czech movie maker Jiří Menzel. He has directed and created over 600 commercials, short films, and documentaries under the banner of Dungarpur Films.
