Mrighdeep Singh Lamba is a film director who shot to prominence with a film ' Fukrey' that released in 2013. The film was a sleeper hit and due to its success in box office, the makers of the film were planning to make a sequel which might go on the floor in 2016. Filming of the sequel is likely to commence in August 2016 in Delhi. But one can not predict if the sequel would go on the floor or not. The film 'Fukrey' was produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and Mrighdeep also did the screenplay for the film along with story writer Vipul Vig. The film was totally a comedy film which picked up well with audiences slowly due to the satirical concept. After the success of ‘Fukrey’, Mrighdeep was working on two or three more projects which were again going to be a serious comedy film. The director felt he could attempt at doing a light-hearted film even. All those stories were still raw and fresh in its concept, and the film was supposed to to be produced by Farhan Akhtar Excel Entertainment. But then still none has an idea if such planning had met successfully later. In the same year, Mrighdeep Singh directed the internationally acclaimed movie ‘ 'The Lunchbox‘ that featured Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles. The film was a critically acclaimed film and even won ‘Critics Week Viewers Choice Award’ at the Cannes Film Festival. It is said that the whole cast did a rehearsal for six months before facing the camera, and the footage was shot in a documentary manner. The whole movie was shot using the Arri Alexa digital camera. The director always wanted to experiment with different genre and even prefers doing only low budget films.

The director is of the opinion that films speak a universal language, and hence, story and character should speak and lead the story forward so that audience takes a genuine interest in the film. He likes to direct off-beat films with a modest budget; he made his debut with his film ‘ Teen Thay Bhai’ in the year 2011.
