Ashish R Shukla is an Indian filmmaker who is best remembered for directing the thriller web series Undekhi. Born on June 16, 1981, Ashish grew up in Mumbai. He comes from a non-filmy background, as his father Shukla worked in Railways and his mother was a homemaker. Ashish decided to get into filmmaking from the moment he watched the movie Salam Bombay. He also got interested in art forms like sculpturing and drawing. Opposing the wish of his parents, Ashish dropped out of his B.Sc graduation as he wanted to get into an art school.

Before getting admitted to Raheja School of Arts in Worli, Mumbai, Ashish worked in an advertising agency as a graphic designer. He majored in photography in Raheja School of Arts. Anurag Kashyap invited him to work with him in his upcoming movie Dev. D. Apart from working as the creative head of the film, Ashish Shukla also appeared in the role of the manager in Dev. D. in 2009, he shot his next short film The Journey featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

As a documentary director, Ashish made his first directory, The Making of Dev. D, which follows the making of the film Dev. D. He directed his next director for National Geographic channel on the 26/11 Mumbai Attacks in the name "Inside Mumbai Terror Attack – 26/11." The short film became a critically acclaimed film and gave him a breakthrough as a director. In 2013, he wrote and directed his first feature film, Prague, that got screened as many film festivals. Following Prague, Ashish filmed a few television series, including Shaitain – A criminal Mind. In 2018, Ashish directed the 13 episodes web series Banned. Banned is a musical drama which follows the journey of four boys and their dream of starting a band.

The year 2020 started on an excellent note for Ashish, as his second web series Undekhi released. Undekhi met with an over-whelming response from the critics and audience. On October 2, 2020, Ashish's next Bollywood movie Bahut Hua Samman released in Disney + Hotstar and received positive reviews. Some of the other projects he worked on are Corneliani, MahaKumbh, and Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost.
