Anurag Singh is an Indian director and film script writer who predominantly works in Punjabi film Industry. He is the highest paid director of Punjabi film Industry and well known as “Hit Machine” of Punjabi films. This famous director hails from a small village in the Kapurthala District of Punjab, an Indian state. His burning passion for film-making motivated him to do further studies in film-making. So he left India to study Media Arts in Deakin University, Australia before working in Bollywood. This highly talented director won 4 PTC Punjabi Film Awards in the category of Best Director.
Anurag assisted Bollywood famous Director Raj Kanwar for several years before starting his own production house. Anurag started his Bollywood venture as a director with the 2007 movie ‘
Sharman Joshi, and
Tanushree Dutta. The storyline of the movie deals with a girl named Sophie (Tanushree Dutta) who tricks two men Remo and Sunny to fall in love with her through her charms and murders them for their money and fortune. She plans the whole scheme with Siddharth(Remo’s stepbrother) played by Sharman Joshi to con them. However, that film didn’t do very well in the box office.
In 2009, he was the director of the film “Dil Bole Haddipa!” starring
Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles. This film did average in the box-office. After two years, in 2011, he started his Punjabi film venture with the Blockbuster movie ‘Yaar Annmulle’ which depicts the story of 3 students and their college life starring Arya Babber, Yuvraj Hans and
Harish Verma in lead roles. He made this film with an average budget of 27 million and it collected 63 million in the box-office which made it the first blockbuster Punjabi movie of that year.
This movie is slightly inspired by Bollywood movie “
3 Idiots” .He keeps on coming up with one after another hit movies after that. Then he came up with top 4 highest grosser of that time “Jatt& Juliet,” “Jatt& Juliet 2,” “Disco Singh,” and “Punjab 1984” and all four starring
Diljit Dosanjh. He won PTC Punjabi Film Awards in best dialogue category for Disco Singh and Critics best director award for the other three films.
