Sanjib Dey is an Indian film director and screenwriter known for III Smoking Barrels(2018) and A Reasonable Compromise(2011). Sanjib was born into a middle-class family in Golaghat, Assam, India. Sanjib’s interest in cinema has been early because of his family relations with cinema. His father was a businessman who was also a devoted folk musician. His grandfather was known to have been an accomplished tabla player and once owned a Jatra dal (folk theatre group) in Sylhet, which is in present Bangladesh. Sanjib has completed his schooling at Sacred Heart School in GFeature and graduated from the University Of Delhi. He has been working in the Mumbai film and television industry for more than a decade now. Dey started his career under Sunil Ghosh, a veteran ad-filmmaker and an FTII-Pune alumnus.

He also assisted in the popular Hindi TV series Kareena Kareena Kareena Kareena is Habib Faizal's rib tickling >> Read More... and a few non-fiction shows and TV commercials. The director has also directed a few non-fiction TV shows, like Houzee, Dhano Bole Toh etc. His two short films also worked out well for him. A Reasonable Compromise, which he has written and directed, was screened at various film festivals, including Court Metrage – Short Film Corner, Cannes 2012, Kolkata International Film Festival etc.

Another short film by him, which was The 100 Watt Bulb, which he produced, has won him the J. Abraham National Award and the Indian Documentary Producer’s Association (IDPA) Award for Best Short Fiction. But his most acclaimed piece is the multi-lingual film “III Smoking Barrels”. The film had its world premiere at the 38th Durban Film Festival in South Africa and was nominated for various awards. Like, It was nominated for the prestigious “Grand Newcomer Award” at the 66th International Film Festival of Mannheim-Heidelberg in Germany (2017) and for the “Youth Cinema Award” at the 26th Varna International Film Festival in Bulgaria (2018). He has won the “Best Narrative Feature Award” at the 12th Mexico International Film Festival (2018). With such a film’s success, it is presently streaming on the streaming platform Netflix, Giving it a more global success.
