Ajay Veermal is an Indian television director known for soap operas like
. He completed his schooling at South Indian Education Society High School and attended National Institute of Event Management. After working in few advertisements and shows as an assistant director, he got an offer from the producer Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms to direct some episodes of Star Plus’ Kayamath in 2008.
As the replacement of Kahiin Toh Hoga, Kayamath explored the subject of friendship, love and how the best friends fall in love after knowing each other since childhood. Kayamath boasted the cast of high-profile stars such as , ,
, and Mohnish Behl. During its broadcast, Kayamath received rave reviews from fans and got high TRPs on a regular basis. In 2011, he helmed Pavitra Rishta which aired on Zee TV.
It revolved around a love story of two ordinary people who fall in love, get married and how the pair cope with the difficulties after they get to know each other’s past lives. With Sushant Singh Rajput and
as the protagonist couple, Pavitra Rishta took inspiration from
, a Tamil serial. Pavitra Rishta won numerous awards at different ceremonies and functions including “Best Daily Serial,” “Best Entertaining Serial” during its five-year broadcast.
In fact, Sushant and Ankita began their relationship while filming on the sets. As the show’s popularity attained international fame, Pavitra Rishta got dubbed in several foreign languages such as English, French, and Vietnamese. International audiences loved the Indian serial as well. In 2010, along with Niraj Gupta, Ajay co-directed Dil Se Diya Vachan which had Kamzor Kadi Kaun’s host
as the mother-in-law. The makers of Dil Se Diya Vachan projected the show as a refreshing take on the bond shared by the in-laws in a joint family. Despite a promising start, the serial did not live up to people’s expectations, and the channel broadcasted the show for a year only.
In 2013, it got its Arabic-dubbed version under the name of Sayidat Al-Dar which got televised on Zee Alwan in the Middle-East countries. In 2014, he joined Rowdy Rascals Productions and got a chance to work with Bollywood director
for the crime drama “Ishq Kills.” Ishq Kills depicted a set of cases where love took a new twist and turned into a saga of obsessions and hate. Veermal presided over some episodes for Saavdhan India on Life Ok. Ajay got hitched to Sandhya Reddy on 18 November 2011. His relative Vijay Veermal works as an ad maker.
