Abhishek Kapoor

Abhishek Kapoor is a prominent Indian film actor-turned-writer and director. He was born on August 6, 1971. He is the cousin of Bollywood actor, Tusshar Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor of the Balaji Telefilms, and the nephew of the popular actor and producer, Jeetendra. Abhishek got married to a Swedish actress and model, Pragya Yadav, on May 4, 2015, in Iskcon Temple, Mumbai.  He made his entry as an actor in Vipin Handa’s film, ‘Uff! Yeh Mohabbat’, in the year 1996, opposite Twinkle Khanna in the lead role. The film failed to make it to the box office, and just when he thought his career was over, after acting in two more films, Ajay Kashyap’s Aashique Mastane and Bobby Raj’ ‘Shikaar’, he decided to pursue his passion to become a filmmaker.  He made his directorial debut in the year 2006 through the box office action drama film, Aryan: Unbreakable. In the year 2008, he penned and directed his magnum opus and highly ambitious film entitled Rock On!! This film marks the acting debut of filmmaker-turned-actor, Farhan Akhtar, and the film earned him several praises and accolades including the National Film Awards for Best Feature Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Story.  After a long gap, he helmed the drama buddy film, ‘Kai Po Che!’ in year 2013, which is based on the novel entitled The 3 Mistakes of My Life, by Chetan Bhagat. This film gave him the cult status in Bollywood cinema. This year, he worked on the newly-released romantic drama film, ‘Fitoor’, which stars Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapur and Tabu in the lead roles, and after this film, he will start working on the first part of the mythological epic film, The Mahabharata.  Abhishek is known for casting new actors in his films. He believes that they have a lot to offer since they are unaware of the glitz and glamour, which can lead to an honest and sensitive performance. He is also popular for adapting his movies from popular novels. While ‘Kai Po Che!’ is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, Fitoor is also based on Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. Abhishek is currently engrossed in penning his scripts and will go back to acting if something really exciting will come his way. He wishes to direct Amitabh Bachchan in his future films, due to his huge filmography, and among the youngsters, he wants to direct Hrithik Roshan, because he believes that the actor gives more than 100% to his work.
