Cricketer Yashpal Sharma

Yashpal, an Indian international cricketer, was born on 11 July 1954. He was a team member of the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Yashpal was an aggressive batsman who played during the 1970s-1980s. Between 1978 and 1985, he had represented team India in 37 Tests and 42 One Day Internationals (ODIs). On 2 August 1979, Yashpal made his test debut against England at Lord's. He made his highest first-class score in 1980-81, against Victoria, a 465-minute 201. He made his debut in ODI on 13 October 1978 during the Pakistan tour. He scored 884 runs in tour matches at an average of 58. He got stuck on the head by Malcolm Marshall at the Port of Spain and was forced to retire.

During the 1983 World Cup, Sharma was the second leading run-scorer for India, with 240 runs in eight matches. After his retirement, he spent two years working with Railways. Later, he became an umpire and was appointed a selector from 2003 to 2006 for the Indian cricket team. During his second tenure as a selector, India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In 2000, a day/night benefit cricket match was conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in honor of YashpalSharma. He was also the coach for the Ranji team of Uttar Pradesh in his later years. He became the head of Delhi's cricket advisory committee in 2014. On 13 July 2021, at age 66, he died due to a massive heart attack.
